TopShop Lipstick in Macaroon

Hey guys!

I read quite a number of blogs on a daily basis and a few of those are UK based bloggers have raved about TopShop makeup so when a friend and I went to downtown Toronto, I made it a point for us to stop by their store. As a self confessed lipstick lover, I immediately went to their makeup stand and started swatching their lip colours. I picked up two lipsticks and am sharing one of them in this post...

MAC Archie's Girls Lipstick in Daddy's Little Girl Review and Swatches

Hey guys!

Today I'm sharing with you one of MAC's newest lipsticks from the Archie's Girls Collection in the shade Daddy's Little Girl. I remember reading the Archie Comics when I was younger and being fond of the whole gang. Anyways, this is the first limited edition lipstick I purchased with the special packaging which makes it all the more fun and exciting for me. The packaging is Valentine appropriate with the white background, Archie in between Betty and Veronica (swooning over him) and the little hearts.

Daddy's Little Girl is officially described as "mid-tone pink purple" from the MAC website. This shade is quite opaque with satin finish which is not my favourite because this type of finish sort of flakes on me, but I can deal with as I adore the colour! When I was looking at swatches online, I thought this would be more of a fuchsia shade but in actuality is a blue based purple with some pink.

Here is an arm and lip swatch

Overall: This is a great alternative to fuchsia shades for a little bit of uniqueness that the plum-my purple provides. Satin finishes kind of flakes on my lips so I make sure that I moisturize well before wearing them. Daddy's Little Girl wore for about 5 hours on my lips before needing re-application and left a little bit of stain after removal.

MAC Matte Lipstick in Russian Red Review and Swatches

Hey guys!

Since Valentine's Day is in a few days I though I might share with you a red lipstick that you can wear while celebrating the occasion. MAC Russian Red is my all time favourite red colour that I wear most often during special occasions.

Russian Red is officially described as "intense bluish red" and is one of MAC's classic lipstick colours. The pigmentation for this shade is really opaque and intense that stays on for long hours. This shade has blue undertones so it can help the teeth appear whiter, which is a plus! Russian Red has a matte finish so it can dry out the lips a little bit but not overly drying that it's uncomfortable to wear.

Here is an arm and lip swatch

Overall: I highly recommend this classic red lipstick from MAC for different skin tones as it's not too bright, too dark. This lipstick lasted a good 5 hours on me before I made minor touch ups. It should be noted though that because of the matte formula, this lipstick can stain even after removal.

MAC Matte Lipstick in Pink Pigeon Review, Swatches and Photos

Hey guys!

Today, I have yet another MAC lipstick to share with you. I've had Pink Pigeon for almost a year now since the Iris Apfel Collection came out but never featured it in my blog because it's limited edition. This shade was re-promoted in the Strength Collection so I thought to share my thoughts about this lipstick.

Pink Pigeon is officially described as "bright cleanest pink" in the MAC website. I would say that this is a bright magenta but not over the top, "in your face" bright. I love that this is a bold yet wearable pink that can be worn during a bright and sunny day. This lipstick is a matte finish but has a smooth texture, opaque in one swipe and comfortable to wear.

Here is an arm and lip swatch

This lipstick lasted for about 5 hours (with eating and drinking) before needing re-application. Also, it can stain even after removal.

MAC Matte Lipstick in Party Parrot Review, Photos, Swatches and Comparison

Hey guys!

I am so excited to write a post for this lipstick because I feel like it's a long time coming! I have been lusting for MAC Lipstick in Party Parrot ever since the Iris Apfel Collection last year but I sadly missed out on it, so when it was re-promoted in the Strength Collection I knew I had to snatch it right away.

MAC Party Parrot is officially described as a "bright red pink" with a matte finish. Looking at the lipstick tube itself and the swatch below, this shade looks like a neon and very intense.

Since Party Parrot and Impassioned are always touted as dupes I thought I'd do a comparison of the two lipsticks. The one on the left is Party Parrot and the one on the right is Impassioned. From the swatches below, any difference is hardly noticeable except for the finish. Party Parrot is a matte finish while Impassioned is an amplified creme (somewhat glossy) finish. Also, Party Parrot is a true neon while Impassioned is almost a neon.

MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Apres Chic Review, Photos and Swatches

Hey guys!

Today I have with you one of the lipsticks included in MAC's Apres Chic Collection, the shade Apres Chic. This lipstick caught my eye when I was browsing swatches of the collection from a blog and just adored the uniqueness of it without being over the top.

MAC Apres Chic is officially described as "pinky brick red" with a cremesheen formula which means it's very build-able. This shade is a warm, medium-toned pinkish orange-red which sounds complex but is actually a very wearable red.

Here is an arm and lip swatch

As with any other MAC lipsticks I own, this wore for about 3 - 4 hours before needing re-application. Also, either a hot pink or red lip liner can be worn underneath to change the lipstick's undertone for different looks.

Price: $18.00 CAD

Nail of the Week: OPI Warm and Fozzie

under natural light

Happy New Year!

For this week's nails I am wearing one of the nail polishes from a past OPI Muppets Collection, Warm and Fozzie. I chose to wear this polish as the outfit I wore for our family's New Year's Eve celebration is a bit dress-y and I thought this shade was a perfect fit. This shade is a warm metallic copper mixed with pink, green and gold glitter particles. I think this is such an interesting shade because of the small glitter particles in it especially when it catches the light and certain angles. The formula for this polish is liquidy and thin so I painted 3 coats to get the opacity I wanted.

How was your New Year's celebration? What do you have on your nails this week?

NYX Champagne and Caviar Palette Review and Swatches

The NYX Champagne and Caviar Palette is one of the first ones I have bought when I first started getting into make up. I purchased this from Cherry Culture site at the start of the year when they had one of their 40% sales as the brand is not readily available in Canada. This palette is part of NYX's Runway Collection that includes 10 everyday neutral eye shadow shades. Even though I have purchased this a while back, it's only now that I have had a chance to play with the palette and have been enjoying it so far.

Hey guys!

I'm so excited that it's December already because that means more chances for me to wear one of my favourite looks and that is a red lip. I know this lip look can be worn throughout the year but there is something about the Holidays that makes me rock out this look more. And in lieu, I purchased the CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Hot Passion as I've heard great things about this lipstick. Let's check it out!

MAC Lipstick in Plumful Review and Swatches

Hey guys!

Today I would like to share with you yet another fall lip colour that I absolutely adore, MAC Plumful. This shade has a lustre finish that is actually not a favourite finish of mine as it kind of dries my lips out so I apply my trusty lip balm before wearing the lipstick. Also, since it is a lustre finish, the colour tends to be sheer but can be intensified when layered.

Plumful is officially described as a "blossoming rose-plum" which I think is pretty spot-on. If I can give further description of this lipstick, I would say that it's a medium pink with deep plum undertones which  would be a great shade for the fall season.

Here is an arm and lip swatch of MAC Plumful

Overall: As any of the other MAC lipsticks in my collection, this shade lasts about 4 hours before needing re-application. Also, a lip balm is recommended to be worn underneath the lipstick.

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter Review and Swatches Part 2 - Reds

Hey guys!

Here is part 2 of my review and swatches for the Revlon Lip Butters and I have the 'reds' for you today.  A lip butter is a hybrid of lip balm and pigmented lip colour and Revlon makes a wonderful collection of them. For this post, I have the shades Candy Apple and Cherry Tart. To read part one, click here.

Candy Apple - is a bright coral red shade that can be sheered out for a wearable red but quite intense when layered on the lips. This is one of the shades in the collection that has no glitter or shimmer and only glossy finish.

Here is an arm and lip swatch

Cherry Tart - is a warm cherry red with micro glitter that brightens the face. I'm not really a fan of glitter on my lips so I have only worn this a couple of times but this is still a pretty colour nonetheless.

Overall: The Revlon Lip Butters are excellent combination of lip balms and lipsticks which are not drying but not that moisturizing either. They are lightweight, creamy, have excellent pigmentation and have great variety of shades. On me, they were for about 2.5 - 3 hours before needing re-application.

Have you tried the Revlon Lip Butters? What's your favourite shade?

Holy Grail Status: Makeup Forever Mat Velvet + Foundation Review and Swatches

Hey guys!

Today, I would like to share with you one of my make up essentials that I don't think I could live without, a full coverage foundation. Since I have acne-prone skin there are certain qualities that I specifically look for and found in this foundation. Let's check out the Makeup Forever Mat Velvet + Foundation!

Company Description: A shine controlling, oil-free, water-resistant, complete coverage liquid foundation. It conceals skin imperfections, evens out the complexion and mattifies with a powder finish.  This new oil-free, non comedogenic formula is suited to sensitive skin.

My thoughts: As it says on the title of the post, this is my holy grail foundation. I have been using this foundation on a daily basis for about 6 months now and have been very satisfied with it. I came along this foundation when I returned another full coverage one which is the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Foundation which made me break out quite badly. I was browsing through the brands in Sephora and remembered that a lot of people raved about MUFE HD foundation and I was going to pick that up but this foundation caught my eye and decided to purchase this instead. It comes in an opaque, matte plastic squeeze tube with a black cap and small sprout where you can control the amount of foundation you want to use. With the Mat Velvet +, I get everything I wish for from a foundation; it has full coverage that evens my skin tone but still feels lightweight, keeps my skin matte for long hours and yet it doesn't clog my pores. I brought this foundation when I was in Mexico where the weather is dry and humid and I've got to say that this foundation still performed well. I have paired this foundation with my Benefit POREfessional Pro Balm and noticed my face being oily after about 6 hours. I also swam in the pool and the ocean while wearing the combo and my foundation didn't fade.

Here are some swatches

Overall: I have a few foundations in my rotation but I always go back to this on days that I want a fool proof face and would recommend this to someone who likes a matte and shine free face for long hours. This is also great for sensitive skin and does not clog pores.

Price: $40.00 CAD
Place to buy: Sephora

Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Trio in 'Knock On Wood' Review and Swatches

Hey guys! How are you enjoying fall so far?

Since I have featured this trio in a recent eye look I created for fall, I thought to write about this wonderful palette in a post. "Knock on Wood" is a trio from Wet n Wild Color Icon line that includes  gorgeous autumnal shades perfect for the season.

Here are the shades

"Browbone" shade - is a dusty medium pink with a frosty finish. This may seem like a dark highlight shade but it actually sheers out easily when blended.

"Crease" shade - is a warm golden brown with a frosty finish. This is a great crease shade that compliments the eyelid shade well.

"Eyelid" shade - is a reddened brown, burgundy with a frosty finish. My favourite shade of the trio which is very pigmented.

Overall: A great thing about the Wet n Wild Color Icon Trios is that they have labels that will help you create a look easily but you don't necessarily have to follow them. The shadows are very pigmented, the texture is velvety smooth and not chalky at all, and the shades included in the trio blend and compliment each other well. The Color Icon also has a wide variety of shades from neutral to colour shadows.

Price: $4.99 CAD
Place to Buy: Walmart
