Favourite Look of the Week: Smokey Purple

I was browsing through the videos in youtube and came across a tutorial for smokey purple that I wanted to recreate and wore for my mom's birthday dinner. Getting the deep purple shadow to be a little vibrant was a challenge as I had to put a lot of layers with the shadows I already have. I mixed the pinky-purple and plummy-purple shadows from the Tokidoki Palette to get the shade I wanted. I hope you liked this look!

Products I used are the following;
E.L.F. Eyelid Primer (not pictured)
Pinky-purple + plummy-purple mixed from Tokidoki palette - all over lid
Deep eggplant shade from Covergirl Sugar Coated quad - crease
"Blackout" from Urban Decay Naked 2 - outer third of the lid
Essence Gel Liner in "Midnight in Paris" - upper and lower lash line
Benefit "Bad Gal Lash" Mascara

Recent Empties Vol. 1

I like seeing empties post because it shows what other people may or may not like and see their opinions on different products. The title says 'recent' because as much as I would like to do a monthly empties post, I don't finish a product that quickly.

So here are the products I've finished recently;

Organix Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner with Awapuhi Ginger - I have seen a lot of posts about the Organix with Moroccan Oil so I thought to give it a try but when I saw that the brand also has a shampoo and conditioner that repairs I thought that would suit me better. I like the shampoo because it makes my hair feel moisturized even on days that I don't use the conditioner. I've been growing out my hair and its dry at the ends so I like these two for keeping my ends healthy.

Nivea Gentle Toner - I bought this product a few months ago to go with my Neutrogena skincare routine to help remove any makeup that may have not been removed with my cleanser while still hydrating my skin. Unfortunately, I did not see any results from this product and concluded that this is an unnecessary step in my regimen.

I Love.... Strawberries and Milkshake Shower Gel - This is the first product that I tried from I Love Cosmetics and was pleased with the brand. I like that this shower gel does not have a strong scent but still smells sweet

Neutrogena Rapid Clear Night Lotion - I find that products with Retinol work better for my acne prone skin than products with Salicylic Acid. I have the full Rapid Clear Kit from Neutrogena and found that the products helped my skin become clear and smooth.

La Roche Posay Mela-D Dark Spot Corrector - Since my skin is getting better from acne, I have been using this product to help lighten acne scars and hyper pigmentation. I have noticed a considerable result with this product so when Shoppers had a 20 x points for the Mela-D Serum I purchased the product right away!

Lush Retread Hair Conditioner - I bought this about 4 months ago when my ends were really dehydrated. I saw that my ends have gotten a little better with this product but not enough for me to purchase this again.

E.L.F. Waterproof Eyeliner Pen - I love this eyeliner because not only is this really opaque but also lasts long. I have oily lids so some eyeliners smudge and transfer easily but the E.L.F. eyeliner does not.  Review and swatch here

Bath and Body Works Sweet Pea Candle - a non beauty empty that I thought to share as well. I just love the smell of Sweet Pea so much that I have this scent in shower gel, lotion, body mist and anti-bac as well.

E.L.F. Studio Blush Review and Swatches Part 1

If you have read some of my posts last month, you may know that I hauled quite a few beauty products when I went to the States. I have heard a lot of great things about the E.L.F. Studio Blushes so when I went to New Jersey I didn't waste time looking for these babies! I found these blushes at Target and bought 6 but thought to feature them into 3 separate posts.

For this post, I will be writing about the shades Tickled Pink and Candid Coral.

Company Description: The soft sheer texture blends into the skin for a silky finish. Designed to be worn alone or layered for more depth. Highlight your complexion with a subtle healthy glow!

Packaging: The packaging is very reminiscent of the NARS blush packaging except for the texture, E.L.F. has a matte texture while NARS has kind of a rubbery texture. Once opened, a mini mirror is revealed on the lid with a thin plastic film at the top of the blush itself.

Tickled Pink: is a very pale pink with a slight shimmer. Since I have a medium toned skin and this blush is pale, I have to put on about 3 layers of this blush to appear on me.

Here are some pictures of the product

And here is a swatch

Candid Coral - is a peachy - coral colour with fine golden shimmer. Since I think peachy - coral blushes look the best on me, I really enjoy wearing this blush for a natural looking glow.

Overall: I do recommend the E.L.F. Studio Blushes for a number of reasons; 1) these blushes are velvety soft, not chalky at all and easy to apply, 2) they have decent shade selection for every skin tone, 3) their packaging is sleek and simple which can be easily stored in your make up bag, 4) the best part? they only cost $3.00 USD!

Have you tried the E.L.F. Studio Blushes?

Guide To.... Types of Eyeliners - Drugstore

Hey guys!

Since there are many kinds of eyeliners available in the market, I thought to make a post of what I have so you may be able to choose which is more suited for you.

I have here pencil eyeliners, liquid eyeliners and a gel eyeliner which are available from the drugstore.

First up, pencil eyeliners. A pencil eyeliner is a staple in every girl's makeup collection, I think.  A pencil eyeliner is a good starter for a makeup beginner as its easy to apply with little to no room for mess ups. For application, you basically just trace your waterline or your upper lash line for a gorgeous look. For this kind of eyeliner, I have the Wet n Wild Megalast Retractable Eyeliner in Blackest Black ($1.99 USD, bought from Target) and Revlon Luxurious Color Smoky Crayon in Black Smoke ($8.99 CAD, bought from Rexall).

As you can see from the picture, the Wet n Wild pencil is much thinner than the very chubby Revlon crayon. I use the Wet n Wild pencil mainly for my waterline and the Revlon crayon for my lash line when I don't have much time to put make up on in the morning. Both are retractable pencils so you don't need to sharpen them.

Here are the swatches

Next up, liquid eyeliners. A liquid eyeliner is great for creating a cat eye look but does need a steady hand for application. This type of eyeliner is the hardest type of eyeliner for me to use as I need to relax first and lean on to something for a "perfect" line. For this kind of eyeliner, I have the E.L.F. Waterproof Eyeliner Pen in Black ($1.50 CAD, bought from Dollarama) and the Physician's Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum ($12.99 CAD, bought from Rexall).

Both eyeliners have felt tips but the E.L.F. one has a much stiffer tip than the Physician's Formula one, which makes it easier  to use for a precise application.

Lastly, gel eyeliner. A gel eyeliner gives a dramatic super dark line and can also be used as a base for a smoky look. A good thing about gel eyeliner is it doesn't pull or tug the eye area unlike using a pencil eyeliner. A gel eyeliner can be easily used with a stiff angled brush for a precise definition and line. I only have one gel eyeliner and that is Essence Gel Eyeliner in Midnight in Paris ($3.49 CAD, bought from Shopper's)

Here is a swatch

This eyeliner does not come with a brush so you have to buy one separately. I quite like this eyeliner because it's super dark but is also really cheap

Now for the smudge test

I ran a makeup wipe through the swatches a few times

I hope this post was informative.

Have a great week!
